Tip off tomorrow!! Bottoms up to an exciting and successful season of Boilermaker basketball!! Any predictions or expectations for Painter and his crew? What would be considered a successful season for this years squad? I would like to see a Big Ten win and to be 1 of the 8 teams left in the NCAA tourney would be nice to see and are both realistic goals imo.

FF will be MSU, Purdue, Kansas, and Texas. Purdue wins the title over MSU. Who's with me?

Here's a 45 min interview with Mark Montieth that Painter did on 11/15. Scroll all the way down.
http://www.1070thefan.com/podcast/ Let me HIGHLY recommend listening to this interview. It's fantastic, even if you are not a Purdue fan and just a bball fan, very thorough and candid. Is it just me or does Painter seem like a really really cool cucumber whose a good dude? He seems very real, I don't know how else to put it. So level-headed. If he is not those things, he is one of the better actors I know of and should go to Hollywood. Since he projects all those things about himself everytime I read or listen to an interview, short or long. Between this and his long-term and so far very successful recruiting model in the Midwest, I don't know that Purdue could have hit more of a grandslam with this hire. |

My hissy fits are pretty legendary (hence EVERYONE mocking me everytime Purdue gets slighted or iu gets pumped up). I'm pretty predictably obnoxious about that...wonder why BAP and RD haven't already nailed me for it, too... That said, I'm expecting my Boilers to have an elite 8 type of season in spite of the injuries we've already had, complete with Teej and his peegs buddies laughing hysterically at the Boilers "massive choke job" when we don't win it all ignoring that no preseason publication on earth currently has the Boilers in its top 4. GR plays the perfect iu fan card again: Blast Boiler fans who don't post that they are looking forward to a sure thing can't miss final four as weak fans not fully supporting their school while also blasting any Boiler fan who dares post he is looking forward to a possible title run as delusional. It never gets old. Believe me. Never ever. Drivin' that train... Your friend and mine, Grover |

IU still sucks, Purdue top ten team. Yet the IU thread has 4 times the posts/interest. Nuff said.

NASCAR has a lot of fans and interest too, but that doesn't make its followers any less stupid.

Perhaps we should pad this thread with typos and use a bunch of words incorrectly like the iu thread...

Perhaps we should find more than 3 idiots in central indiana that care about the boilermakers.

I'm not going to waste my time predicting how far they get in the tournament. Everyone knows they have the talent to get to at least the elite 8, and anything short of that will probably turn out to be a disappointment. But who knows what will happen with this team between now and then? You're talking about winning a few tournament games against unknown teams in unknown locations, under unknown circumstances. Last year I would have said anything short of a Big Ten title and a top 2-3 seed would have been a disappointment. But with the way the season played out (Hummel's injury, and then the jam job they got by the selection committee), it's tough to look back and say it was disappointing.
These freshmen are supposed to give them depth, but I still think they have a significant dropoff after their starting five. Hummel and Johnson are both capable of taking over games and carrying the scoring load. Anything happens to either of them, the whole outlook changes. It would be nice to be able to count on Moore to be a bit more consistent this year. It wouldn't kill Keaton Grant to show up this year, either. I assume Jackson's injury will not be an issue once he's back in the lineup in a few weeks. I hope this offseason nonsense hasn't taken away from his focus and drive. Because there were a lot of moments last year that the rest of the team fed on his energy. |

12 guards - 5 forwards.....scary roster trying to get deep in the tourney.

We will know tonight (and looking forward to it) to seeing if the Boilers are worthy of the #7 rank they own right now. As the Tennessee Vols should provide their first test on the hardwood tonight. BoilerUp!!

Agreed big hoops game tonight on Fox Sports Net, Purdue and Tennessee. Per AP now #6 vs #9. BIG-time contrast of styles. Free-wheeling chaos and press VS hard-nosed D and deliberate motion offense. Should be a fun one. Purdue pulls it out 70-68 in OT.

Game never swayed much for either team. Fun way to start the season. Tenn is still a month away of their next challenge but they've been putting up a ton of points.

Great game, nice win early for Purdue. I don't think they'll miss Jackson much, if he is in fact done for the year. Barlow looked really good tonight in his place, in spite of the missed FTs at the end (Jackson would have missed those, too).
