I do follow the Bearcats (pumped about Saturday night's matchup at Oregon State), and of course the Bengals, but what am I going to do during the week? There's still 15 games left after last night's nice 3-2 win. Good to see Matt Maloney look solid on the mound again - they may have a new guy to insert into the rotation for next year (and a lefty to boot!).

I wasn't on here all weekend, so I have to bitch about Friday's game today. Good job to end a win streak by trying to use your closer 5 straight days there, Dusty. While he's running the ship, I will continue to have to hope for them to win despite their manager.

Are you f*cking serious? Corky Miller started behind the plate last night, followed by Tavaras getting the start in CF for this afternoon's game. Willy Mays Taveras should go totally unused the remainder of the year, with the exception of possibly as a pinch runner. Cut him at the end of the year and eat his salary; it'll be the best $4m Jocketty ever spends.

So I guess George Grande announced his retirement yesterday. He wasn't the best play-by-play guy, but he was serviceable and I'll kind of miss him.

Well damn. I'm higher on Paul Janish than a lot of people, but I'd still like to get someone with a bit better bat in there. I was hoping the Reds would pull the trigger with JJ Hardy on the market, but the Twins got to him instead: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4629260 . Janish's defense will make him worthwhile, at least.

I can deal with B Phillips not winning another Gold Glove at 2B, but Orlando Hudson? Seriously? Has anyone watched this guy play? If Utley had won it instead, I'd be cool with that, but Hudson?

Reds resigned RD Favorite Ramon Hernandez to a 1-year deal for $3m, with a $3.25m option for 2011 that kicks in if he plays 120 games next year (unlikely): http://twitter.com/m_sheldon/status/5771266862 .

While I don't think $3m for him is a terrible deal (the option they declined was for $8.5), for a team reportedly looking to reduce payroll next year, I'd like to see Hanigan to get more time and see that $3m spent elsewhere.

The Reds decided not to tender an offer to Gomes this weekend. I'm not saying he's a must-have, but if this was because they gave Ramon Hernandez $3mil, then I'd say it's a bad trade off.

He seemed to have put it together at the end of last year (his last 9 starts or so). Of course, several of those were against the Pirates....

Keep in mind, he's only 23 - he came up to the majors at 20. They probably rushed him, and he may be forever mentally ruined, but he could still turn out to be the prospect they thought he was. But it's not looking good so far this year.
