Default Massachusetts Senate Race

I am surprised this didn't get a little more run on here, but the election for the "Kennedy" Senate seat is today. The Democrat chick was at one point as many as 20-25 points ahead in this race and is now behind by as many as 15 points in some polls. I know the Garrison/Hannity/Limbaugh types will be yapping about how this is an indictment on Barry and how he is running things. That may be true to a degree but I would encourage you to look a little deeper. From all accounts this chick is one of the biggest dingbats on two legs. She spent the month up to the election not campaigning, fundraising in DC, refusing to debate, and other general numbskullery. Now the Democrats lose the magic 60 number in the Senate and all hell is going to break loose.

I'm a hundred percent okay with this scenario.

As much as I would love to see the GOP win this one-nobody with a brain can think that a special election in Mass. can have any sort of indication of the attitudes of the US public in general.

I'm sure that the Liberal machine in Boston will turn out more than enough votes to keep the Dewars seat safe.

It's all because of Curt Schilling's support.

Then the Senate Republicans can roll out the fillibusters and really slow health reform down... Then maybe, just maybe, they'll try to figure out why health care is so dang expensive to begin with.

The problem the Democrats have is that Massachusetts already has reformed health care on a state level to basically insure everyone. The residents generally like it, but they don't have any reason for it on a national level. A lot of people are afraid they're essentially going to start paying twice for something they already have.

Even if the repub wins the election, it could take up to a month for the election to be certified. That could give congress time to pass the reform before the new guy gets seated.

If that doesn't happen, there will be a lot of pressure on the house to push through the senate version, to make sure it doesn't have to go back through the senate. That's going to piss off a lot of house democrats.

Ultimately if this healthcare reform is going to happen, it has to happen now. Congress won't want this issue taking up headlines much later on in an election year. They clearly want to focus on the economy and jobs.

Not so fast BAP:

"Massachusetts, the best known of these newly established plans, requires nearly all individuals to obtain health insurance.

The program is running into various problems, including the fact that the state has insufficient primary-care physicians to care for more than 400,000 previously uninsured people. Many people can't find a doctor, and if they do it may take many weeks and even months to get an appointment. Patients continue to seek expensive fragmented care in emergency rooms and urgent-care centers. Some doctors are crowding their schedules to accommodate the need, but many are not willing to accept new patients. Unfortunately, what Massachusetts learned is reflective of the nation. And it's going to get worse."

There obviously problems and opponents of the Massachusetts reform. But by and large it's still pretty popular there.

Whether it works or not has nothing to do with this election. The point is that they don't want to pay for the same thing twice.

Independents in Mass are a very large % of voters. Watching them "Just Say No" to the obama agenda is interesting considering they supported it in large numbers in 2008.

Big day for the markets today... and it will be even bigger tomorrow as everyone can taste the obama agenda getting stopped.

Amazing how this seat went to the Republican. If I heard right, it had been in a Democrat's hands for six decades? That sounds right since it has been a Kennedy seat.

The big question is, is this just an election rarity, or is this going to be the trend for the Congressional races this year? I think it speaks rather loudly when a state as liberal as Taxachusetts decides to go with the opposite party of the White House. It's almost starting to look like a "Contract with America" type of election coming up. Of course, that bombed horribly, but it go the GOP in control of Congress when the Democrats had a strong strangle hold on the White House.

I wouldn't read too much into this just yet. Yes it is amazing that Mass elected a repub, but that can't be viewed as a referendum on the Obama presidency. If the dems hadn't run a goddamn moron out there, who knows what would have happened? And if Mass residents weren't already paying for this healthcare reform at the state level, I don't think you'd have seen Mass residents turning out to try to stop it at the federal level.

The seat was last held by a Republican in 1956, the year JFK beat Henry Cabbot Lodge.

I don't think this trend is rare, Democrats also lost Governorships in Virgina and New Jersey, also states that went for Obama. In spite of what Obama's folks have been saying, the Dem candidate was not a bad candidate, she had already won statewide office with over 70% of the vote...This has all been backlash against the "change" agenda where the only thing that changed was who is in control. Americans do not want to be force-fed a far-right, nor far-left agenda. Americans want their politicians to work together to improve the situation for everyone, not just supporters of those in power. Reed and Bayh are next.

And each & every one of those Dem candidates had Obama personally campaigning for them.

I hope to see Air Force One make its way to Indiana this fall, that will almost guarantee GOP gains in this state.

I agree, I can't wait for the retards who created this mess to get another crack at running the government.

Do you guys have any loyalty to this country or are you just so blindly loyal to some party that you support nothing the other party does?

Ummm.... the Dems have been the ones creating the mess that led to the Kennedy seat being taken by a Republican.

The false "hope & change" has been exposed for exactly what it is.

Even the people of Mass. saw through that.

I agree; nobody I can remember lied more to get into office than Democrats this time. They said they'd learn from the Republicans -- make sure they took care of issues people are on board with. Plus, they said they'd learned that the country, by and large, is not full of people far to either side of the spectrum. So they'd work towards a middle, bi-partisan ground. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

So far, they've simply pushed the far-left's agenda, have changed nothing (in the way politics works -- one of Obama's big rallying cries), and ignored people who disagree, saying they know what's best, and anyone who disagrees is scum.

Isn't that one of the fears of liberalism? Creating a new kind of elite, where the bureaucrats have too much control over our lives?

The backlash this is creating ought to be something to ponder.
